This elegant, healthy home features European styling cues throughout. With almost 4,000 square feet on three levels, it features a dramatic entryway leading to 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, a media/rec room, wine cellar, library and oversized living room. The house was designed to both complement and take advantage of its 7,200 square foot view lot in a densely zoned urban neighborhood.
Many sustainable features were incorporated into the design of this unique home. It was the first house in Kirkland, Washington to feature Icynene spray foam insulation, with the product strategically used for air sealing the walls and for thermal and sound insulation. It also features a Ven-Mar whole house, HEPA filtered, humidity controlled and multiple zoned HVAC system for the ultimate in allergy prevention and occupant comfort.
All of the flooring material in this home was either FSC certified wood, carpeting that was manufactured from recycled water bottles, or sustainably produced Marmoleum. In addition, all materials contain low or zero VOC's. The prior house was demolished and more than 85% of the previous structure was either reused or recycled, including the old foundation, driveway and walkways (which were crushed onsite and used as drainage rock for the new foundation).
The kitchen is the centerpiece of the modern home, and the centerpiece of our warm and friendly entertainment sized kitchen is the "castle stone" cooking center, which features a Viking Dual Fuel convection oven with stainless steel surround and a dual fan/dual exhaust copper hood. In addition to the stonework, the kitchen features custom cabinets with glass door fronts, tip-out trays, granite countertops, a Bosch dishwasher with hidden controls, a large custom island with both counter height and table height black galaxy granite surfaces, an integrated Marvel stainless steel wine cooler with 60 bottle capacity, a lighted overhead rack for pots and pans, a data connection point and a toe-kick control for the central vacuum system. There's also a walk-in pantry with custom glass door, a 4 foot wide prep sink with dual pull-out faucets, instant on hot and cold filtered water, a garbage disposal with countertop switch, soap dispenser and remote controlled switches to open/close the sink drains. The warmth of the kitchen is further enhanced by the FSC certified Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) hardwood floors and the room is also pre-wired for speakers and digital cable TV.
The main living room was designed to complement the open kitchen, and it features oversized windows combined with a raised ceiling that is set off by custom, rough sawn, air dried sustainably harvested fir beams with antique hardware. There's also a custom mantelpiece containing a Vermont Castings direct vent natural gas fireplace. As the main comfort center of the house, the room has dimmable wall sconces which provide surround lighting, and it's also pre-wired for 7.1 surround sound and flat panel TV.
The library in this home features the same custom, rough sawn beams as the living room, and this room also features custom made book shelves and an oversized window seat. The room is further complemented by dimmable spot specific lighting, so it's a great place to relax and read a good book on a rainy day.
Upstairs, the Primary Bedroom has a warm, relaxing color palette that complements the custom, rough sawn wooden beams set into its cove ceiling. With a pass-through fireplace, custom bookshelves and a large private deck with 180 degree lake views, this oversized room provides a welcome sanctuary from the stresses of every day life. The room is also pre-wired for both sound and data.
The Primary Bath features a pass-through fireplace, a custom antique charcoal vanity with full-glide drawers, his and her sinks (with instant on hot water) set in a Caesarstone countertop, custom mirrors, heated floors, remote controlled skylights, a separate toilet room and a master closet laundry chute. The house also features upgraded plumbing with cast iron waste lines and extra quiet exhaust fans (1.5 sones or less) throughout.
Other areas of this custom house (not pictured) include a craft room, fully wired office, walk in laundry room, guest/"away" room, guest bath with custom antique vanity, and 2 additional bedrooms. Additionally, on the lower level, there is a custom media room and climate controlled wine cellar.
